Our philosophy

Committed to the highest quality of care for children between the ages of 18 month and 6 years

At Summerhill, we believe that each child deserves a secure, nurturing and stimulating environment where self-esteem is protected, confidence in ability is built and opportunities for exploration and self-discovery are abundant.

Our integrated educational approach, of Reggio Emilia and Montessori methodologies, fosters the individual capabilities of each child and develops their cognitive, physical, social and emotional needs. Our programs recognize the individuality of each child and our aim is to provide experiences which enable each child to learn and develop to their optimal potential.

Emphasis is placed on the process over the product in order to encourage a feeling of success without pressure, which in turn, fosters a sense of accomplishment and pride for each child.

Our philosophy
At Summerhill we value “play” as an important part of children’s physical and cognitive growth. Supporting this philosophy, our qualified teachers plan and implement a wide variety of meaningful and age-appropriate opportunities for children to “learn through play.”

Weekly activities are created with the individual needs and interests of each child in mind. This commitment to the individual establishes an environment in which children are free to think creatively, problem solve, make decisions, explore and experiment with new ideas through trial and error. Summerhill’s inclusion of group work within our curriculum, will allow your child to interact with other children and adults in a learning kinship.

The exposure to group dynamics at such a young age will aid your child in learning essential life skills such as sharing, cooperating and compromising, while developing the self confidence needed for future success.

What our parents say?

The aim of the Sensorial exercise is the education and refinement of the senses- visual, tactile, auditory, taste, smell and spatial relationships. We have an extensive number of sensorial materials that help to enhance the child’s understanding of his or her physical environment through manipulation of materials which isolate certain aspects of that environment.

The Casa classroom is divided into five different areas: Practical Life, Sensorial, Language, Math, Culture- geography, botany, zoology, science. Within these areas, the materials are logically organized from simple idea to the complex, and from concrete to the abstract. Each area has hands-on materials which are geometrically shaped, simply designed, aesthetic, and suitable for small hands. Interaction with these high-quality materials rewards the child with a range of sensorial experiences.
